Well, we have officially been homeowners for a month!! We’ve been so busy with the move and travel that the first month has flown by but we’re looking forward to tackling some of the projects around the house. I wanted to share an empty house tour with you all before we start decorating and painting.
So I actually found our house while going on a walk to one of our favorite coffee shops. Right away, I looovveedd the outside with that cute yellow door and all of the giant trees. After stalking the realtor and owner for a few months (I would literally send 20 texts a day) the house was finally ours!
We’ve been working on the exterior of the house and have already added some white shutters. Next, we will be painting the foundation, we’re still choosing a color for that, and then planting some flowers and taking care of landscaping.
This house was built in the 1940’s and one of my favorite parts is the original hardwood floors and windows. There is SO much natural light in this house, it’s gorgeous! I want to keep the decor super simple and clean with all white walls. We actually already ordered a couch for this room from West Elm but when it was delivered I didn’t like the color lol this is why you don’t buy things online without seeing them in person first. We went back to West Elm and reordered the same couch, this time after seeing the correct color, and it should be delivered in about 6-8 weeks. You can check out the one we purchased here.
I am seriously obsessed with this kitchen, especially the floating shelves. We plan on using the first shelf for everyday plates but the top one is pretty high so I’m going to arrange some decorative plates up there. We actually picked up a gorgeous dish in Sicily that will be the centerpiece.
Since this is an older house the bedrooms are definitely a bit smaller. We have three bedrooms and luckily each of them has the big windows which let in so much natural light and make the rooms feel a bit bigger. As of now, we have our master bedroom and a guest room. We’re still trying to decide what to do with the third bedroom, I want to make it into a closet / dressing room but Steve says that’s excessive lol…we’ll see.
I know this may sound weird but the bathroom is one of my favorite rooms in the house! With everything else being super clean and white I love the pop of navy on these walls against the grey cabinets and the floors. OMG the floors!! I swear, these tiles make me happy 🙂
We were super lucky to find a house that has a detached guest house. Right now, this space is completely gutted and empty but we’re planning on getting it fixed up and renting it out soon. We’ll rent to either someone full-time or through Airbnb, either way Austin is full of people looking to rent so it’s perfect!
We were wanting a house that needed a little work but nothing too crazy and I think this guest house will be such a fun (and manageable) project for us.
So one of the main reasons we bought this house is because of the size of the backyard, it’s HUGE! (you’re welcome, Darla). It definitely needs a lot of work but we have so much space the possibilities are endless. I’m not sure why, but the previous owner had a fence running through the middle of the yard so we’re definitely going to get rid of that. We’d like to extend the patio and add a fire pit at some point too!
One thing I’ve learned since buying this house is that creating / furnishing a home takes WAY more time (and money) than an apartment. I’m someone who likes to move in and spend a week to get everything done but that just isn’t possible with a home this size. Since realizing this, we’ve been tackling projects every weekend and have been enjoying transforming the space. I can’t wait to show you all more!
